Thoughts
Revisiting what it means to be Remotely Human

In the winter of 2021, I gave the closing keynote at Chicago Camps, remotely. Many teams who have remained wholly or partially remote have found more balance since this time, but the importance of finding new ways to connect remains.

3rd Edition Underway!

Russ and I are working on the 3rd edition of A Project Guide to UX Design. And boy, have things changed.

It's Hard to Work Human

We took "Adventures in Experience Design" to a local high school and held a 6-week course. Surprisingly, we found the hardest part for students wasn't generating new ideas, or choosing and forming the best ones. It was something that touched the core of their fears and insecurities.

Making Mindfulness a Part of Education

Last year, I was honored to participate in UX for Good, an organization that brings leading User Experience Designers together to focus on complex social challenges. In last year's challenge we partnered with the Dalai Lama Center in Vancouver in order to explore this question:

How can we make mindfulness training part of the education of every child?

Two Student Perspectives

Two students from the fall quarter Applied Interaction Design class talk about their experience with the craft practitioners and mentors who visited, as well as their instructor.

Carolyn was able to break down UI patterns, UX best practices and techniques to a level that made sense. She teaches what you need to know and how to apply it.
— Dan Levine, former student
Carolyn has an uncanny ability to take any challenge - whether a product, process or strategy - and break it down into a solution that not only makes sense, but begins to define a whole workflow and strategy on how to make everything around it work better as well.
